Pluteus atromarginatus (Konrad) Kühner Cap 3-10cm across, convex-flattened; blackish brown with darker streaks and fibrils; smooth to slightly squamulose at center. Gills broad, crowded; pallid then pink-salmon with edges dark brown. Stem 50-100 x 5-l0mm; white with dark brown fibers on surface. Flesh white. Odor pleasant. Taste pleasant. Spores ellipsoid, smooth, 6.5-8 x 4.5-5µ. Deposit brownish pink. Pleurocystidia present and with horns at their apex. Habitat on fallen conifer logs. Found throughout most of North America. Season July-September. Edible. |
